African leaders who witnessed Kenyatta's inauguration

The inauguration of Uhuru Kenyatta as the fourth president of Kenya on Tuesday attracted the presence of Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan and 11 other heads of government. Uhuru Kenyatta is the youngest president of the country.

Apart from Jonathan, other presidents at the programme are Yoweri Museveni (Uganda); Jakaya Kikwete (Tanzania); Salva Kiir (South Sudan); Hassan Sheikh Mohamud (Somalia); Jacob Zuma (South Africa); Ali Bongo (Gabon); and Joseph Kabila (Democratic Republic of Congo).

The rest are Paul Kagame (Rwanda); Ismail Guelleh (Djibouti); Robert Mugabe (Zimbabwe) and Prime Minister Haile Mariam Desalegn (Ethiopia).

Former presidents who attended are Daniel Arap Moi (Kenya) and Kenneth Kaunda (Zanbia). There were also diplomats from many countries including the U.S and some European countries.

They joined thousands of people who attended the inauguration at a stadium in the nation's capital, Nairobi.

After Kenyan Chief Justice Willy Mutunga had confirmed that President-elect is Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, as the right persons elected by Kenyans, Chief Registrar of Judiciary Gladys Shollei administered the oath of office to both Kenyatta and Ruto.
