Unknown Gunmen Shot NAN Photo Journalist

A photo-journalist working with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Callistus Ewelike was on Monday shot by unknown gunmen in Abuja.

The incidence took place in front of the victim's house in Nyanya, Abuja, between 10pm and 11pm.

Mr, Ewelike is attached to the State House, Abuja and is currently acting as the official photographer to President Goodluck Jonathan.

He was attacked in front of his residence after covering an assignment attended by the President in another FCT community,Mpape.

The two men gunmen were said to have arrived the scene in a motorbike.

One of them had reportedly shot the victim in his neck at close range as he was coming down from his vehicle.

The assailants had reportedly sped off the scene when the gunshot attracted residents of the area taking no personal item from the victim.

Mr Ewelike was rushed by his neighbours to a nearby hospital and was later transferred to the National Hospital, Abuja where medical doctors are currently preparing him for surgery.

He is said to be in a stable condition.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, FCT Command,  DSP Altine Daniel, confirmed the incidence.

She said the Commissioner of Police, Mr Femi Ogunbayide, has directed ''full scale investigation'' into the shooting and has given a matching order for the manhunt and arrest of the assailants.

Sometimes last year Mr Ewelike , armed men had also visited Ewelike's residence robbing him of his working tools including  camera and a laptop and a few other personal effects.
