CEO and joint managing director of Bharti Airtel, Manoj Kohli, said in a statement that the new E-site solution would enable Airtel to harness solar energy to power mobile base stations across Nigeria.

Sacked Airtel staff resume work

Staff of outsourcing firms providing call centre services to Airtel Nigeria, who were sacked last month, have resumed work today in Abuja, following an agreement which was reached between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC); their labour union; Airtel; and the outsourcing companies.

The staff, in conjunction with the NLC, had launched a series of protests last week, which saw a disruption in Airtel services in Abuja and some states in the north, as well as the picketing of some of its offices in several states.

The order followed a resolution reached at the conciliatory meeting between the management of Airtel Networks Limited, its business partners, and the National Union of Post and Telecommunications Employees (NUPTE), with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

"The additional funds will be used to roll out both our 3G and 2G network on a national basis," Etisalat Nigeria Chief Executive Officer, Steven Evans said in a statement.

Etisalat said the banks involved were First Bank, Zenith Bank, Access Bank, Fidelity Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Bank PHB, Guaranty Trust Bank, and Oceanic Bank.

Bharti Q3 net falls 41 pct on Africa, forex loss

Bharti Airtel, India's top mobile phone carrier, posted a bigger-than-expected 41 percent fall in quarterly profit, as weaker margins from its African operations and currency fluctuations took a toll.

The outlook for India's mobile market -- the world's second biggest and the fastest growing by wireless customers -- has improved after prices steadied last year following cut rate competition which sent call pricing tumbling in late 2009.
