Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi has disclosed that the club's goal is not just to win the 2011 Nigeria National League Super Cup but to clinch a continental ticket after the 2012 season.

The Jigawa State police command has paraded a former member of the state House of Assembly, Saleh Fawa, for allegedly defrauding the State Government of millions of naira through the state Salaries and Pensions Directorate.

The state Commissioner of Police, Hashimu Argungu, while parading the suspect at the police headquarters in Dutse, said Fawa was arrested at Royal Tropicana Hotel following a tip off.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has indicated interest to partner with the Jigawa State Government on job creation. 

The UNDP Resident Representative, Douda Toure, gave the indication when he visited Governor Sule Lamido in Dutse on Monday.

He said that UNDP was also willing to cooperate with the government in other areas to enhance development in the state.

The Federal Ministry of Environment has predicted that 12 states in the country might experience heavy rainfall that could lead to flooding.

Twenty people have died from a disease outbreak suspected to be gastro-enteritis in four local government areas of Jigawa State, according to community leaders and health workers.

Villages in Ringim and Taura local government areas were among the worst hit.

The village head of Larbar-Gurugunya in Taura Local Government Area, Bashir Abdullahi, said that 15 people had died in his village in the last two weeks.

He identified the lack of potable water and health centres as major factors responsible for the deaths.

The Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Chris Cooter, who made the pledge in Dutse when he visited Governor Sule Lamido, said his country would also cooperate with the state government in the area of Information Technology.

He promised to extend the same gesture to other states, noting that Canada and Nigeria had for many years enjoyed good relationship.

Two ex- governors from the U.S. and other facilitators are to lecture newly elected governors in Nigeria at an induction course before their inauguration on May 29.

Asishana Okauru, the Director-General of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), disclosed the plan in Abuja on Monday.He said the three-day induction course, which would commence on May 18, would attract local and foreign facilitators.

He said the NGF secretariat had the full cooperation of all stakeholders, adding that facilitators for the induction had started arriving in the country.

No fewer than 400 supporters of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Miga Local Government Area of Jigawa State, yesterday, defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Dawakin Umar, the spokesman of the defectors and the former CPC secretary in the council, announced this in Miga during Governor Sule Lamido’s governorship campaign rally.

Umar said that the defectors decided to join PDP because of the numerous achievements recorded by the PDP-led government in the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), in Jigawa State, says no fewer than 692,335 eligible voters in the state have so far been registered in the ongoing voter registration.

The Head, Department of Public Affairs and Monitoring, INEC, Surajo Kore, told the News Agency of Nigeria, on Wednesday in Dutse, that the figure was collated since the commencement of the exercise on January 15 up till 18.
